Description
Nagula Jarndu’s handmade earrings blend fun, tradition, and cultural significance. Each pair showcases unique designs and bold finishes, combining contemporary style with Indigenous artistry. Crafted with stainless steel, nickel-free posts, they celebrate Aboriginal culture with a distinctive and vibrant touch.
These wattle design earrings, created by Yawuru artist Mareeya Pigram, are inspired by her experiences growing up on Country and learning about the changing Yawuru seasons. As a child, Mareeya went out bush with her dad and uncles, gaining knowledge about seasonal shifts. In her current work, she explores Laja Season (October to November), when wattle flowers bloom, signalling that brindany (stingrays) are fat and good to hunt.
The earrings feature sage green leaves with delicate white painted details, complemented by a vibrant yellow mirror blossom embellishment. A green mirror top completes the design, adding a striking contrast.
Measuring approximately 6cm in length, these earrings beautifully capture Mareeya’s connection to Country and seasonal knowledge, finished with stainless steel, nickel-free posts for comfort and durability.
