Description

These Ilordi (coral) earrings, designed by Mayala artist Cecilia Tigan, celebrate her connection to the ocean and her Mayala heritage. Cecilia comes from Ardyaloon (One Arm Point) on the Dampier Peninsula and is inspired by her late father, Aubrey Tigan, a renowned riji (ceremonial pearl shell carving) artist. Through her work, Cecilia shares stories of collecting pearl shells, tidal movements, traditional hunting, and the ocean’s role in Mayala life.

The earrings feature a sparkling gold glitter acrylic disk with a stainless steel, nickel-free post. A small silver hoop connects the disk to a coral-shaped acrylic pendant. The pendant’s front is a vibrant orange with gold details and a purple mirror centre, while the back is a simple pearly orange.

Measuring about 4cm in diameter, these handmade earrings are a bold mix of tradition and modern design.
