Description
These Mangal (clamshell) earrings, designed by Yawuru artist Marie Manado, reflect her connection to Nagula Buru (saltwater country). Inspired by her family’s ties to this coastal landscape, the design embodies both cultural heritage and contemporary elegance.
Handmade from natural bamboo and acrylic, the earrings feature a bamboo circular disk with a stainless steel, nickel-free post. A small silver hoop links the bamboo to a clamshell-shaped acrylic pendant. The pendant has a light pink pearlescent finish with a delicate white design on one side, while the reverse side is plain pearly pink.
Approximately 3.5cm in diameter, these earrings beautifully blend Aboriginal craftsmanship with modern design.
Nagula Jarndu, meaning “Saltwater Woman,” is an Indigenous women-led arts and textiles enterprise based in Broome, Western Australia. It empowers Aboriginal women to create handcrafted works that embody the local landscape and celebrate cultural identity.
