Wayin with Curved Neck by Wurrungurrkur Wanambi 40cm tall

Description

This striking wayin (bird) sculpture, handcarved by indigenous artist Wurrungurrkur Wanambi, stands 40 cm tall with a 6 cm diameter base. Entirely ochre-red—including both the bird and base—with a black beak, its body is intricately adorned with fine carvings of birds and trees, painted using traditional natural earth pigments in yellow, red, and black.

Wurrungurrkur Wanambi, one of the few female Yolŋu carvers, combines decades of experience with traditional techniques to create meaningful works that honour the spiritual and ancestral connections of northeast Arnhem Land.
