This elegant wayin (bird) sculpture, carved by indigenous artist  Wurrungurrkur Wanambi, stands 49 cm tall with a 7 cm diameter base. Handcrafted from a single piece of renewable wood, it features a long curved neck, a black beak, and ochre-red body with traditional carvings in earth pigments. The ochre-yellow base complements the striking design, reflecting Yolŋu cultural heritage.

Unique among carvers as a female artist, Wurrungurrkur Wanambi draws on decades of experience, blending traditional techniques with her distinctive style. Each piece is crafted using sustainable wood, natural pigments, and meticulous methods, honouring the deep spiritual and ancestral connections of northeast Arnhem Land.
