Wayin with Curved Neck by Wurrungurrkur Wanambi 25cm tall

Description

This petite wayin (bird) sculpture, handcarved by indigenous artist Wurrungurrkur Wanambi, stands 25 cm tall and is crafted from lightweight wood. Entirely yellow ochre with a black beak, it features fine carvings on the back and wings depicting a tree, highlighted with traditional pigments in yellow, red, and black.

As one of the few female Yolŋu carvers, Wurrungurrkur Wanambi blends traditional techniques with her unique artistry, creating meaningful works that honour the spiritual and cultural heritage of northeast Arnhem Land.
