Artwork Story
The painting represents the type of bush tucker (food) that is a staple supply within certain parts of the country. The animals depicted are part of the food supply chain.
The seven dotted circles in white represent waterholes, with a continuous white dotted line symbolising the creek. The lone circle represents an underground spring. The lizard (top left), emu (top right), barramundi (middle), freshwater fish (bottom right), and plain turkey (bottom left) are all featured in the artwork.
The background is made up of patches of red ochre, representing the natural soil colour. This indicates a healthy country, which signals an abundance of bush tucker. It brings life back into the land—into the waterways, creeks, and river systems. A healthy creek is full of fish, turtles, bush pigeons, and waterbirds.
The sounds of nature from the animals are therapeutic and calming. This is what nature brings. The splashing of fish breaking the surface catches your attention, serving as an alarm that alerts other game to scan their surroundings and escape.
